Hanneke van Proosdij : Les Baricades Misterieuses.
Vibrant harpsichord-music.
Les Baricades Mistérieuses features Dutch harpsichordist Hanneke van Proosdij,
renowned for the elegance, virtuosity, and expressiveness of her playing. She
performs on a harpsichord based on the Ruckers-Goujon harpsichord in the Musee
d'Art et d'Histoire in Neuchatel, Switzerland; it has more than a frisson of the
original Ruckers, and tenders energy and complexity to the works of Jean–Henri D'Anglebert, François Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Jacques Duphly & Claude Balbastre. The title of the album derives from
Couperin's famous work "Les Baricades Mistérieuses" which was published in 1717
in his VIth Ordre de Clavecin. Although countless theories have been advanced as
to the meaning of the title, none is convincing, and the ineluctable modality of
the piece has captured the imaginations of composers, writer and artists. In
1961, René Magritte painted "Les Barricades Mystérieuses," which eventually was
transformed into a grand mural in Halle Delvaux at the Palais des Congrès in
Brussels.
The French harpsichord school of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries is
known as Les Clavecinistes. They flourished and achieved a refinement of
keyboard writing which was constantly admired and often imitated outside their
home country. The French Clavecinistes flourished at the royal court and the
aristocratic salons of Paris. This recording will take you on a journey among
the different generations and styles of French harpsichordists and composers.
