On its album Mensa Sonora & Al., the Simplicissimus Ensemble presents music by the 17th century Austrian baroque composer Heinrich Biber. Published in 1680 under the title Mensa Sonora (Sonorous Table), his suites combine catchy melodies with accompaniments which are rich in counterpoints, are sensitively harmonized, but are never intrusive. In addition to his compositional skills, Biber's sensitivity to humor is also evident in several passages. Thus, these works are not only a 17th century lounge music of sorts; while easy to listen to, they are also musically complex compositions that can be enjoyed even without the feasts.
