This recording features two of Johann Sebastian Bach's most ambitious works for solo cello and solo violin performed on a tenor ukulele.

Cello Suite #6 is generally thought of as the most technically difficult of his six suites for cello. Written in the key of D major (B major in this ukulele transcription), it has great melodic leaps and implied harmonies mixed with subtle chords and driving rhythms. The feeling of inner peace and happiness permeate the six movements.

Partita #2 for solo violin in D minor (B minor transcription) consists of 4 dance-like movements followed by the lengthy and marvellous ciaccona (chaconne). These days most listeners equate minor keys with sadness, but it should be noted that this association was a convention more of the later Romantic era than the Baroque. In many cases J.S. Bach used the minor key to express such qualities as human nobility and emotional depth.

Bach experienced many things in his lifetime (1685-1750), but one thing he didn't experience was great fame. He wrote his many transcendent masterpieces in relative obscurity. One can only wonder if he had any idea of the enormous influence his work would have on musicians and listeners in future eras.
